TEACHING AND SPEAKING

Modern research would mean nothing if it sat in academic journals, lonely and unused.  In his mission to make the world a better, brighter place in which to live, Jim specializes in teaching cutting-edge ideas in an easy-to-understand, entertaining, and useful way.

BE THE CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE...

"Jim's class is like a twice-a-week comedy show but one filled

with knowledge!"

-Kyle T., Consumer Behavior Student

Professors have the power to shape the lives of their students.  Beyond teaching students the knowledge and history of a discipline, professors have the opportunity to help students connect course concepts to current events, to real-world application of the ideas, to important business strategizing...it's just that some professors make that process a lot more fun than others.

Dr. Mourey integrates his lifetime in the performing arts with his rigorous academic and research training to create entertaining yet educational class and workshop modules that are able to convey rather lofty ideas/theories in accessible, practical, and even fun ways.

Part comedy show, part classroom, Jim's engaging and interactive style requires his audience to get involved, to bring their life and their experiences into the conversation, and to create meaningful change that will impact their personal and professional lives immediately.  Jim is so passionate about marketing and consumer psychology, that he has been known to convert some finance and accounting majors to marketing after just one class.  That is the power of teaching.

In addition to his well-known (and difficult-to-get-into) course on Consumer Behavior, Jim also teaches courses on Integrated Marketing Strategy and Brand Development and Management, as well as an engaging course on Luxury Marketing that culminates in an experiential trip to Paris, France.  Jim is a Visiting Professor at the Institut d'Économie Scientifique Et de Gestion (IÉSEG) in Paris and Lille, France, and has also served as a Visiting Professor at EM Strasbourg Business School in Strasbourg, France. Jim is also a professor for DePaul University's "Discover Chicago" program in which he teaches a course on Improvisational Comedy, exploring the art form's origin and evolution throughout Chicago in a one-of-a-kind experience that includes visits and workshops at The Second City, iO, The Annoyance, and ComedySportz.  Jim also serves as an advisor for DePaul University's Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) program, where he advises both student group cohorts and individual students completing their DBA.

Beyond the traditional classroom experience, Jim also conducts educational workshops and delivers keynote speeches throughout the greater Chicago area and around the country.  Some of Jim's current workshops/speaking engagements include:

  • Selling the Best Possible You: An Interactive Workshop on Self-Branding and Marketing

  • Urge: Understanding Why Consumers Really Want What They Want

  • Fusion: The Art and Science of Inspiring a Modern Marketing Campaign

  • The Science of Valuable Relationships: Improving Workplace Culture Via Relationships

Jim may love doing top-notch research, but the truth is that he was born to teach.  Thankfully, he has the opportunity to do both in classrooms and boardrooms around the world.  If you are interested in having Jim teach a course or workshop for your employees or students, please feel free to contact Dr. Mourey.

"If God Himself came to teach only one section of Consumer Behavior, I'd still take it with Jim instead. This man and this class will change your life and the way you see the world...You'll learn a ton and have fun too!"
